I was researching art movements and trying to find something that appealed to my art practice. This was before I realised my art practices are broard and untethered to one specific genre.
One of my favourite artists is Piet Mondrain who practiced abstract art but used geometrical shapes. Each time I’ve photographed from a helicopter or plane I am enthralled by the patterns I see from above the ground, so much inspiration in the earth we see below.
I first tried painting aerial images that I’d photographed from above with all the patterns I’d found but I could never credit what could be seen in the photograph and translate that to my artwork. So, I continued to photograph the patterns from above and kept these photographs. But my artwork moved on and translated some of those patterns into paintings of the flowers that I loved, then added the lines, strokes and patterns to produce this interesting and abtract image. The colours are vibrant, striking and above all so interesting.
